Prevent Urinary Tract Infections Naturally

Women develop urinary tract infections 10 times more often than men.

A strain of bacteria causes the infection; doctors generally prescribe a seven to ten day course of antibiotics to end the infection. Approximately half of all women contract a UTI during their lifetime. Also, the nature of UTI’s make them likely to recur within six months approximately 30 to 40 percent of the time.

The placement of a woman’s urethra, the variety of bacteria exposed to that area as well as the fact it remains warm, enclosed in clothing and moist make it easier for bacteria to infect and grow within the urinary tract.

Other factors which affect the immune system and the microbial balance of the female genitalia also increase the risk of a UTI.

  • Pregnancy
  •  Diabetes
  • New or multiple sex partners
  • Birth control pills and devices (diaphragms, condoms, spermicides and intrauterine devices)

Symptoms include :

1.      a burning sensation while urinating
2.      a more frequent urge to urinate
3.      greater sense of urgency before urinating
4.      abdominal pain
Preventative measures are the best course of action for UTI’s. It may not seem as if you can do much to prevent UTI’s, but you can. The most basic measures work from the inside out to keep the urinary tract clear of obstructions and not create an environment favorable to bacterial growth.

Drink plenty of water. Drink enough to stay hydrated and keep your urine a light to pale yellow.

Keep your sugar intake low to zero. Bacteria feeds on excess sugar in your system and your urine if they are on your urinary tract.

If you are prone to UTI’s, taking a daily dose of D-Mannose can help reduce episodes.  D-Mannose, a sugar monomer keeps bacteria, such as e. coli from adhering to the bladder wall.  A dose of as little as 500mg can work to prevent UTIs and higher doses may be taken with the first onset of UTI symptoms.

You can find many good D-Mannose products inside my online dispensary, where I offer an automatic 10% discount with every order.
